Fo Guang University’s Department of Applied Economics collaborates with the University of the West in the United States to offer a "2+2 Program," enabling students to earn dual degrees within four years. Over the years, the department has actively encouraged students to participate in international exchanges and study abroad programs, aligning with global standards and enhancing future value. The department's curriculum is designed in accordance with the university’s modular program system, providing students with greater flexibility for interdisciplinary learning.
With a strong emphasis on applied theory and practical experience, the department breaks away from traditional mathematical frameworks and actively supports students in obtaining professional certifications and internship opportunities. The university also offers an integrated five-year bachelor’s-master’s program and a well-established in-service master's program in business management, along with diverse student activities that comprehensively support academic and career development.
Industry-Academia Collaboration for Talent Development
The department actively arranges industry visits, finance-related seminars, and workplace skills lectures to help students engage with professionals and gain insights into industry trends and workplace culture. These opportunities also allow students to build valuable professional networks. Additionally, exclusive internship opportunities are provided, including full-time paid internships and placement matching based on students' residence locations. These internships are closely linked to future employment and are supported by both industry mentors and faculty members throughout the process. Students may complete paid internships during summer or winter breaks or throughout the academic year with flexible timing, laying a solid foundation for future career competitiveness and development.
Vision
The Department of Applied Economics at Fo Guang University breaks away from traditional learning methods by focusing on practical theory and professional application. With abundant academic and institutional resources, students can study with peace of mind and strive to improve themselves throughout the four years of university. In the first and second years, students build their professional foundations; in the third and fourth years, they can engage more deeply in practical training. It is hoped that through the department’s well-structured curriculum, students will develop confidence and gain extensive professional knowledge, opening new doors to advanced studies or career opportunities in the future.
International Business Track
In partnership with the University of the West (UWest) in the United States, our department offers a “2+2 Program” that allows students to complete their first two years at Fo Guang University and transfer to UWest for their third and fourth years. Upon successful completion, students will receive graduation certificates from both universities.
To support students in this program, we have specially designed the “International Business Program” to align with UWest’s Business Administration curriculum, ensuring smooth credit transfers and enabling students to earn dual degrees within four years.
Our undergraduate program adopts a “grouped admission, unified curriculum” approach—students are admitted under specific tracks but study a common foundational curriculum. While building a strong base in economics, students can choose between the Financial Management Program or the International Business Program, allowing them to gain specialized knowledge and practical experience. The curriculum breaks away from traditional quantitative-heavy models, emphasizing practical application, interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, and real-world experiences, preparing students for diverse careers in business and management.
Additionally, we actively support students in obtaining industry-recognized professional licenses, providing integrated license-preparation courses and personalized guidance. Internship opportunities are widely available across multiple sectors including finance, banking, securities, futures, and insurance. Placements can also be arranged based on students’ locations, enabling them to gain valuable hands-on experience during their studies, and laying a solid foundation for future career development.
The university also offers comprehensive academic advancement pathways. Bachelor’s students can pursue a master’s degree through the 5-Year Integrated Program, and the In-Service Master’s Program is especially popular among working professionals, with steady annual admissions.
Our student association regularly organizes various vibrant activities, such as orientation camps, welcome events, Christmas celebrations, and Economics Week. Visits to other universities and featured guest lectures also help showcase student energy and unity, enriching the overall college experience.
